STAR information

Residents must reapply for Basic Star for 2014

The deadline to register for the New York State Basic STAR exemption has been extended into 2014.

A provision of the 2013-14 New York State Budget requires current Basic STAR recipients to re-register in order to continue receiving their exemption. The change, which kicks in for the 2014 tax year, is part of an effort to make sure that only those recipients who qualify for them are receiving STAR exemptions.

What is the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA)?

Ending the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) is a priority for the Port Byron Central School District. The GEA was introduced in 2010 as a way for the state government to close its budget deficit. It did so by spreading the funding shortfall around to all school districts through a GEA reduction to the overall Foundation Aid due to schools.
