Nominations being accepted for holiday meal giveaway; food drive planned for Nov. 18

Port Byron Central School District is teaming up with two local organizations to help brighten the holiday season for families in need.

Members of Cayuga County’s Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and Port Byron Volunteer Fire Department are hosting a food drive in support of the Port Byron Food Pantry 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 18 in the parking lot of Ed and Jean’s Market in Port Byron.

As part of the donation drive, organizers will be collecting from community members nominations of families that would benefit from a free holiday dinner this year.

Nominations can be submitted in writing during the Nov. 18 donation drive and should include the nominated family’s name, address, and phone number and any supporting remarks.

Port Byron CSD families that are facing hardship - including financial, emotional, medical or physical challenges - are invited to nominate themselves by sending a private message to the district’s Facebook page. School officials will submit this information to event organizers. Due to privacy restrictions, only self-nominations will be accepted in this manner.

The deadline for all entries is Dec. 9.

More ways to support the food pantry

During the Nov. 18 event, Mooney’s BBQ and Catering will be on site 12-4 p.m. serving chicken dinners. The meals are $12 each and a portion of proceeds will benefit the food pantry.

All food drive donors will be entered for a chance to win a free chicken dinner.

Port Byron CSD will also soon be hosting its annual districtwide Hunger Games food drive in support of the Port Byron Food Pantry. More information about this donation event will be posted soon.
