Port Byron voters approve $21 million budget, elect board members

On May 15, Port Byron Central School District voters approved the district’s $21 million 2018-19 budget proposal, elected two board of education members and approved two propositions.

Voters approved:

  • A $21,273,209 budget for the 2018-19 school year that increases spending 0 percent and carries a 1.2 percent tax levy increase:
     299 yes, 153 no;
  • Purchasing two new school buses at a total cost not to exceed $260,000:
    297 yes, 156 no;
  • Supporting the Port Byron Library, $65,147:
    316 yes, 141 no

Voters also elected two candidates, Ms. Melinda Quanbeck and Mr. Joseph Verdi for the two open board of education seats:

Incumbent Ms. Melinda Quanbeck: 313  votes;

Incumbent Mr. Joseph Verdi: 303 votes;

Mr. Tim Marks: 190 votes

Ms. Quanbeck and Mr. Verdi will each serve three-year terms, beginning July 1.

“We want to thank all of our community members who came out and voted today,” said Superintendent Neil O’Brien.
