Port Byron senior Abigail Vincent will attend Purdue University in the fall.

Class of 2018 Senior Spotlight: Abigail "Abbey" Vincent

Port Byron Central School District senior and 2018 valedictorian Abigail “Abbey” Vincent is well on her way to becoming a Boilermaker.

This fall, the Port Byron resident will begin studying computer engineering at the prestigious Purdue University in Indiana. Abbey hopes to one day work as an engineer for an international firm.

“Interning with an engineering research team at Syracuse University solidified my desire to pursue an engineering degree,” Abbey said.

While attending Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Abbey participated in Student Government, jazz band, jazz choir, Robotics Club, Foreign Language Club, Spanish Travel Club, Panther Press Live, Masterminds and Prom Club. She also played junior varsity and varsity volleyball and field hockey.

“Playing oboe in the Area-All State Orchestra was one of my favorite high school memories,” Abbey said. “It was a musical experience I will never forget.”

Abbey said her favorite academic subject in school was math, and she’ll miss spending time in the school’s Learning Center with her friends and Mrs. Hosier. She said her daily 6 a.m. wake-up calls and trying to overcome senioritis were her biggest challenges in school. If she could experience grades 9-12 over again, she said she would avoid wearing sparkly eyeshadow and curling gel.

She wants Port Byron’s underclassmen to explore the possibilities they have at their fingertips.

“Take advantage of the opportunity to study college classes in high school,” she said. “They will make your life after high school immensely easier.”

She said her parents, Michelle and Pete Marshall, are her role models.

“They are incredibly dedicated to helping me succeed,” Abbey said.

Abbey also has two sisters, Anna Vincent and Allie Marshall.

Before heading off to college, Abbey hopes to attend a summer concert, and take a dance class with her sister.

Port Byron CSD is pleased to announce the return of “Senior Spotlight.” This weekly website series highlights the accomplishments and future plans of several graduating Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School students. They were selected for the series by school administrators based on their demonstration of excellence in the classroom and community.
