Class of 2018 Senior Spotlight: Marissa Recckio

Port Byron Central School District senior Marissa Recckio’s next chapter in life is set to unfold in the Big Apple.

This fall, the Port Byron resident will attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City where she plans to obtain her associate’s degree in advertising and marketing communications, followed by a bachelor’s in cosmetics and fragrance marketing.

“Ten years from now, I hope to be working in the beauty industry and doing something I love,” Marissa said.

During her time at Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Marissa participated in Student Government, Masterminds, Drama Club, Yearbook, Panther Press (live and print), National Honor Society, and Foreign Language Club. She was also a member of the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams and the varsity cheerleading squad.

Her favorite high school memories include attending junior prom and getting the opportunity to cheer at Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome for three Port Byron football games. She said what she’ll miss the most about high school are the pep rallies, spirit weeks and playing sports. She said she won’t miss the buzz of her morning alarm.

If she could experience high school all over again, Marissa said she would try to care less about what others think and instead focus on being herself. She hopes underclassmen will take advantage of the academic opportunities Port Byron has to offer.

“Take as many college and Advanced Placement classes as you can and don’t wait until the last minute to do your work,” she advised.

Marissa said her parents have been her biggest supporters in life.

“They support and push me to be my best,” she said. “They are my role models."

Her bucket list for this summer includes attending concerts, traveling and spending time with friends.

Marissa is the daughter of Dawn and Christopher Recckio. She has two brothers, Zachary and Dominic.

Port Byron CSD is pleased to announce the return of “Senior Spotlight.” This weekly website series highlights the accomplishments and future plans of several graduating Dana L.
