Port Byron senior Kelcie Cordway will attend University of Notre Dame in the fall.

Class of 2018 Senior Spotlight: Kelcie Cordway

Port Byron Central School District senior Kelcie Cordway will soon transition from Panther to Pioneer.

This fall, the Port Byron resident will attend Utica College where she will begin earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She hopes to one day become a traveling nurse.

While attending Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Kelcie was a member of the drama, environmental, robotics and foreign language clubs. She also participated in the school’s track and field program.

She said her favorite academic subject was French.

“Mrs. Klaczko is a great teacher,” she said. “She truly cares about her students and their success. Our class was always a safe and comfortable environment.”

Looking back on her time at Dana West, Kelcie said attending prom was her favorite memory. She also said she wouldn’t change anything about her high school experience (except for the smell of the locker room, which Kelcie says she will not miss next year).

When asked what advice, if any, she would give to underclassmen, she stressed the importance of respect.

“Be kind to each other,” she said.

Kelcie names her mother, Kim, as her role model.

“She always motivates me,” Kelcie said. “She wants me to do my best and never give up.”

This summer, Kelcie plans to spend time with her family - which in addition to Kim includes her brother, Thomas Cordway and sister, Kaitlyn Margensey - take her dog Cooper on adventures, attend a concert or two, and go hiking.

Port Byron CSD is pleased to announce the return of “Senior Spotlight.” This weekly website series highlights the accomplishments and future plans of several graduating Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School students. They were selected for the series by school administrators based on their demonstration of excellence in the classroom and community.
