Class of 2018 Senior Spotlight: Rafaela Pelc

Port Byron Central School District senior Rafaela Pelc is ready to take a leap of faith.

Following graduation, Rafaela will be taking one year off from academics so she can pursue other interests and activities. She plans to enroll in Cayuga Community College’s nursing program for 2019 and aspires to become a registered nurse.

But first, she wants to start checking items off her bucket list.

“This summer, I want to cross off something extreme - like skydiving,” she said.

While attending Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Rafaela was a member of the school’s cheerleading and dance programs. She said her favorite class was art and many of her fondest school memories were made in Dr. Townsend’s psychology class.

“We had so much fun taking care of egg babies in Dr. T’s class,” Rafaela said. “The most challenging task was trying not to drop the egg!”

If she could experience high school all over again, she said she would be more involved in activities and events and would try to be more social. When asked what advice she would give to her younger peers, she stressed the importance of turning in homework on time and urged students to avoid procrastinating.
She said her family members are her role models.

“They each shaped me into the person I am today,” she said.

Ten years from now, Rafaela said she sees herself working as a registered nurse and frequently traveling.

Rafaela’s family includes her father, Walter; her grandmother, Santa; and her aunt, Carol.
