Port Byron Cousins Earn Valedictorian and Salutatorian Honors for the Class of 2026

Port Byron Central School District is proud to announce Margaret “Meggy” McNally as valedictorian and Alivia Mills as salutatorian for the Class of 2026. In a unique and meaningful connection, the cousins have earned the top two academic honors—continuing a family tradition that spans generations.
Alivia’s father was named valedictorian of the Class of 1993, while his sister—Meggy’s mother—was salutatorian in 1995. Adding to the family legacy, McNally’s sister, Jenna McNally, was also named valedictorian of Port Byron’s Class of 2023.
Both students credit their success to a shared commitment to learning and personal growth rather than competition.
“I have more of a motivation to learn and do well than to be on top,” said McNally. “I enjoy working to get good grades.”
McNally and Mills will each graduate with more than 50 college credits, taking full advantage of the many opportunities Port Byron offers students to get ahead academically.
This fall, both will attend Nazareth University, where they plan to study occupational therapy. They cite family members, including an aunt and Mills’s mother, as key inspirations in choosing their career paths.
In addition to their academic achievements, both students have been actively involved in drama club, an experience they say has helped them build confidence—particularly when it comes to public speaking. While they have yet to write their speeches, both feel well-prepared to address their classmates at graduation.
“I feel like drama club changed me so much,” said Mills. “I will really miss it and the teachers.”
McNally reflected on her favorite academic experience at Port Byron, noting her junior-year physics class. “It was really fun—Mr. Fedigan is a very funny guy,” she said.
Having attended Port Byron from Pre-K through 12th grade, both students expressed appreciation for the strong relationships they have built with faculty and staff.
“I know all the teachers, and I’ve made really close bonds with them, even if I haven’t had them for class,” said Mills.
Port Byron Central School District congratulates Margaret McNally and Alivia Mills on their outstanding accomplishments and looks forward to celebrating their success and that of the entire class of 2026 at graduation.
